Super Hero Review
Hero: BLADE
Ranking: 6 out of 10
Breakdown: Half human, half vampire. Simply put, Blade rocks! He first
appeared in Tomb of Dracula #10 (1973) as a vampire hunter whose mother
was bitten while giving birth. This unique event rendered him immune to
the vampire's bite. He was a maniac hellbent on destroying all vampires.
Dracula was at the top of his hit list along with the vampire that
attacked his mother, Deacon Frost. Later, while helping Spider-Man
rescue a pseudo-vampire named Morbius (a vampire made through science
not mysticism) Morbius lashed out blindly, biting Blade, granting him
his enhanced vampiric powers without any of the drawbacks.
Blade has had the pleasure of being the first Marvel character to have a
trilogy of films in the modern superhero era. The super hero movie boom
all started with his first film. The films tweaked his origin a bit,
instead of just being immune, he possessed all the powers of vampires
and none of the drawbacks, essentially turning him into Vampire Hunter
D, which isn't a bad thing. The comics later changed him up to match the
movies where originally he was just an extremely skilled
hunter/marksman.
All in all Blade is one badass character and an unlikely hero, but awesome all around.
