Happy belated Valentine's Day, everyone!

FEBRUARY UPDATE:

The writing continues apace here at Blood Work. We've hit one of our goals for the year already. We finished the first draft of the biggest, bloodiest, scariest, action-packed novel we've ever written. We can't express how amazing it feels to have that story out of our head and down on paper (or a word document anyway). It feels real now, instead of thoughts floating around in our heads. And we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Now, this novel won't be seeing publication anytime soon, in fact, it's a few books down the line, but it's one big step forward for the saga we're telling.

It's a cause for celebration!

And with that done, we will be moving onto the next goal for the year: Starting this week, we will begin redrafting the next novel to be published. We have a completed first draft already of this soon to be third book, one that we've sat with for a while. Now we need to clean it up, cut what doesn't work and enhance what does. Once that draft is finished, we'll send it off to our editor!

Fingers crossed that the redrafting and then the editing goes smoothly. The goal is to have the new draft done and the subsequent edits back this year, so we can put together the final draft to be published! This is the year the third book gets whipped into publication shape!

Inspiration can strike at anytime and anywhere, and from likely or unlikely places, so pay attention and takes notes

When an idea sparks, hang onto it, don’t let it go

Take a note or keep thinking about it until you can write it down, then dig into it, explore it, follow it down whatever path it leads, whether you end up using it or not

Remember what sparked the idea, where the inspiration sprang from and go back to it.

We all have our ways in which we tap into our creative space, and certain things help us find that creativity

And it can be anything and come from anywhere, whether alone with our thoughts or keying into a piece of media, film, music, or books. A little inspiration can lead you to something big and somewhere amazing

Inspiration can come in waves, flooding over you at times, or it can disappear with the tide and be elusive for long periods of time

Outside elements can stifle inspiration, crowd your thoughts, and block your creativity. We live in a world full of distractions, of things vying for our attention, many of which serve no greater purpose than to keep us from our thoughts, to keep us from thinking about what we want, from what’s important

Recognize what inspires you and sets your creativity ablaze and lean into whatever it might be, ignore the noise that drowns creativity out

Seek out what inspires you and keep the creativity flowing

DEFACER JANUARY 2026 UPDATE

JANUARY 2026 UPDATE:

We've started off the new year strong. We've made a lot of progress of our next novel this month. The words were pouring out and a grand sequence that was being worked on for months was finally completed.

This was the biggest, most intricate, and meticulously planned out sequence I've ever written. It is both relieving and exhilarating to have it done. Following that, the next sequence, considerably smaller in scale, but no less important was finished as well. 

As I was writing both of these sequences, I could feel the energy and momentum coming through. My fingers were itching as I drew nearer to the climax of both, feeling like I couldn't write fast enough. When this book is at last in your hands, my hope is that the excitement I was feeling while writing it will come across on the page to you, the reader. 

I can't tell you how amazing it feels, having put these scenes down on paper, scenes that have been living in my head for a decade or more. These moments in the story are what we read and write for, these are the moments that make the experience all worth it.

There's still more to do before the manuscript is finished, but I can't wait for the day when this story is published and you all get the chance to read it.

Thank you again for your support last year and welcoming Defacer II: Bloodlust into the world. It was a long time coming and we're proud of how it turned out. But rest assured, we're not stopping there. We haven't spent the last few months kicking back with a good book, beer and pretzels (well, maybe a little bit). We've been hard at the next project coming your way. Keeping you of the blood faith updated on what's coming in 2026, we're well into the next novel. The first draft of the next novel is complete and we're hoping to get another draft done in the coming months (shooting for mid 2026). Then, blood gods willing, it'll be ready to send to our editor!
